![]()

Character Name: Nerull Matakan
Character Race: Bajoran
Character Gender: Male
Rank Type: Enlisted
Character Appearance:
5'11", 210 pounds, firm and solid with a little gut beginning to show, he is very broad chested and wide through the shoulders. He has a quite noticeable scar running from his left temple straight down to his jaw-line. He has the nickname of Tank, which one can tell just from looking at him, is well-deserved. Steel grey eyes, and salt and pepper hair cut in a crew cut complete this rough and tumble ensemble.
Character Personality:
He is very tough on himself, as well as those around him. He expects nothing less than the best in performance and being loyal to those around you. He might come across as extremely stern, but he is also a caring, merciful person. He does not judge people by what others say about them, but by their actions and their work Ethic. He is also very devoted to his family, and friends, loyal to them to the death.
He does have a small tendency to racial bigotry, especially when it comes to Cardassians, but his faith has helped him to overcome this to some degree. His temper still flairs about certain things from time to time, but it has evolved over the years, so that now it is a motivating factor in his life, and not a detriment to his job.
Character Background:
He was born in the Dakhur Province of Bajor in 2345, during the Occupation. His parents, Nerull Jeromo and Nerull Merina, were both actively engaged in the Resistance, but were forced to flee their home during a purge conducted by the Cardassians. In 2354, his parents fled Bajor, to the Nehru system. Once they managed to arrive at the Nehru Colony, they quickly disappeared into the woodwork, attempting to keep a low-profile. Matakan met and befriended Matthew Williamson, a retired Starfleet Petty Officer in 2357, when he was 12. There was something different about this man, who was more accepting of their racial and theological identity then any of the locals. The locals all seemed to care about money more than faith, and it wasn't uncommon for him to get into brawls with local children for mocking the Prophets. It was during one such brawl that he ran into Williamson, when the tide had turned against him. Matthew waded in after coming upon the sight of five teenage boys attempting to beat Matakan's brains out of his skull. Matt picked him up and helped him back to his house. He constantly visited the Nerull family until Matakan was better. Once he could stand on his own two feet again, Matt started teaching him the Art of Judo. This also led Matakan to start asking about where Matt was from, and why he looked so different. It was there that Matakan learned about the Federation, and his desire to join them first developed. In 2363, sponsored by his friend, Senior Chief Petty Officer Matthew Williamson, he was accepted into the Crewman Training Course.
The first six months of the Course were extremely hard on him, mostly because he yearned for home, and for his faith which seemed to be mocked by everyone. He endured everything they had to throw at him, and managed to graduate at the top of his class in 2365.
His first assignment was to the USS Ragnarok, as a Security Crewman. There is still no prouder day for him then when his first Captain promoted him to Crewman Apprentice from Crewman Recruit. The first few years after that went by fairly quickly, and there were a few promotions along the way. A few years later while serving aboard the Asgard, he had the opportunity to meet the love of his life. He had contemplated starting a family, but had never done any serious dating. Sure he had his physical intimacies from time to time, but they never blossomed into anything special. Then he met Rosalind Miller. Everyone that knew him, knew what the score was right after the first date, and they teased him about it unmercifully. The couple had fallen madly in love with each other, and were married a short time later, right after he received assignment orders to go to the USS Asgard. She travelled with him, and it was on board the Asgard that they celebrated the birth of a son, Nerull Jankaro, and a daughter, Nerull Marlina.
He still remembered Captain Rainer's words to him 10 years later when aboard the USS Camelot, he had the privilege to serve under her again, only this time as the Master At Arms and he once again received yet another promotion from her to Chief Petty Officer. He looked her square in the eyes during the Reception immediately following the Promotion Ceremony, and told her those same exact words. "Someone once said....Don't try to be a great man, just be a man. And let history make its own judgements." Both of their eyes welled up with tears, and as he turned to walk away the ship rocked. During the engagement that ensued with a Jem'Hadar light Cruiser, the Camelot sustained heavy damage and took many casualties, one of those being the very Captain he had come to know and respect.
Things weren't quite the same for him anymore after that battle. It had been during some of the fierce Hand-to-Hand that raged in the corridors of the Camelot, that he had earned his Red Badge of Courage, fighting his way through to some of his crewmates that had been trapped in Engineering. He had insisted on letting heal the old-fashioned way, and took shore leave for that very specific reason the first chance he got. Time passed and even though time, and the birth of their third child Nerull Marianna, helped heal his physical wounds, it dulled his sense of loss very little.
His next and last Promotion came while he was aboard the USS Merlin. The promotion to Master Chief Petty Officer also came with a new job and more responsibilities as he was assigned to be the Chief of the Boat. He served quite capably there during the last battles and skirmishes with the Dominion. He ran a tight ship, and ensured that everything was always kept up to snuff for his commander. Finally he got word of the posting he had always dreamed of: a Space staion needed a Senior Enlisted Officer for the position of Command Master Chief. He knew that the position would be perfect for him and his family, and he pulled a few strings here and there to make it happen.
